The National Wireless In-Flight Entertainment System (IFE) project was initiated as an R&D project in 2013 under the Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed between HAVELSAN and THY Teknik. The IFE is a new generation entertainment system that requires minimum structural modification in the aircraft and is installed very quickly.
The project aims at providing a service to personal electronic devices via onboard wireless (Wi-Fi) access. In this context, services such as video, music, games, maps, flight and connecting flight information will be provided to passengers. Software and hardware compatible with DO-178B and DO-254 standards are currently being developed for the system and an application for the Civil Aviation Certificate of Airworthiness was made in June 2014. The system is scheduled to undergo flight tests by September 2014 and be placed on the market as a commercial product as of November 2014.
